Lido

Saltdean Lido to be precise, an Art Deco marvel near Brighton. I wanted to paint a bright building against a dark sky and realised that Art Deco buildings are perfect for this with their rendered surfaces and interesting shapes. I was originally going to paint Embassy Court but couldn't get a good angle on it, finally settling on Saltdean Lido after considering other buildings like Shoreham Airport. I wanted a slightly nostalgic atmosphere with the brightest parts of the painting yellow as opposed to white set against a dark sky (I was planning on a darker sky than this but thought that I would leave it at this stage). I might try another one like this but with a much darker sky. 12" x 12" oil on board.
